Maintaining Your New Blinds

You’ve invested in some new Venetians or roller blinds and they look great. But now you want to know how can you maintain your new blinds? Here are some of our top maintenance tips, to keep your blinds looking as good as new.

Maintenance For Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are available in a range of fabrics. Including wipe easy-clean performance fabric which makes cleaning them simple. However, even if your roller blinds are not made from a specialist fabric, you can still clean and maintain them with relative ease.

To remove dust and small stains, simply let your roller blinds down fully and wipe with a damp cloth. For more stubborn stains, you should use a suitable fabric stain removal product. Use it according to the included instructions. However, please note that the treated area of fabric on your roller blind may appear brighter than the surrounding area after cleaning.

Maintenance For Venetian Blinds

As the slats of Venetian blinds often hang horizontally, they are more likely to gather dust than other blinds. They require regular dusting to keep them looking pristine. However, the method you use will largely be determined by the material of your Venetians.

Aluminium Venetian Blinds

Aluminium blinds are more resistant than wood and can be cleaned using a mild detergent like window spray or washing up liquid. First, you should gently remove any visible stains before drying with a paper towel. Second, switch your blinds to the closed position, so the slats are lying vertically and use a soft duster to wipe them clean.

Once finished with that side, switch them to the other side and repeat. You can also use a vacuum on a low suction setting with an upholstery attachment to remove dust. This is to ensure that your blinds don’t become bent or scratched.

Real Wooden Veneitan Blinds

Real wooden Venetian blinds will require a more delicate approach and its important that you avoid water and liquid cleaning products so you risk warping the wood. The simplest method is to use a duster to rid your wooden Venetians of dust or use a vacuum with a brush attachment.

If you do need to remove difficult stains from your wooden Venetians, rub gently over the stain using a damp cloth. Once removed, make sure that that you dry your blinds thoroughly to avoid damage. Check with the supplier before applying any other specialist cleaning products to your wooden Venetians.
